Online backupAethernet offers a fully automated, verifiable, remote backup of all your important files.  Our online backup service involves synchronising the files in your office with a private area on the file servers in our datacentre.

We designed the online backup service to eliminate the three biggest and most common failings of backup routines in small businesses (assuming there is one of course, there is one, isn't there?!)

First, backup is all too often a manual process, which means it doesn't get done often enough.  Our online backup service is fully automated, so it gets done every night.

Second, either the backup is not taken off site, or if it is, it's taken to someone's home.  Consider the physical risks to your data both while the data is in transit and where it is stored.  Then compare that to our Datacentre.

Finally, backups often involve just going through the motions without any thorough test as to whether the backup has actually been successful (this is particualrly true of tape backups).  Our backups are instantly verifiable via our online recovery tool.  Simply login via your favourite web browser and all your files are right there, ready for you to download and start using.

Features: -

  • Backup of any rsync capable machine (such as our File/Print server), rsync is free software with versions available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
  • Totally automated (nothing to remember, no tapes to manage)
  • Backup to a secure, offsite location
  • Online file recovery via https or webdav (also verifies backup was successful)
  • Snapshots (a point-in-time image of your backup, which allows recovery of old versions or accidentally deleted files. Includes storage of either one week's worth of daily snapshots or 2 months' worth of weekly snapshots)
  • Secure - all communication between your office and our datacentre is encrypted.
  • Efficient -  at each backup, only the differences are sychronised reducing the time taken to perform the backup as well as conserviing your Internet bandwidth.

Aethernet has been assigned an LDAP Private Enterprise Number (25593) by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).  This will allow us to create our own LDAP schemas for use within our Datacentre directories and also in our Filesafe product.
