If you are a first time Mozilla Thunderbird user and do not have it installed on your Windows machine yet, this is the tutorial for you. It takes you through the steps needed to install and setup your Thunderbird experience!
PS: BEFORE STARTING THIS INSTALLATION, PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR AETHERNET CERTIFICATE HAS BEEN INSTALLED.
Download Thunderbird using Firefox. Go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/ Click on the download box.
You will be given an opportunity to save the file – click on Save File
Firefox's download manager will show you when it is done – then click on Open
Because it is an executable file you will be asked whether you want to open it. Click OK
The Mozilla Thunderbird Setup wizard will come up – click Next > The license agreement screen requires you to select I accept the terms in the License Agreement before you can
continue. Do it now. Then click Next >
Choose setup type Standard (it should be the default) and click Next >
Click Finish You are now given the opportunity to import settings and options from your old mail client. Select as you wish.
If no previous mail client is installed simply click Next > As you can see a number of setups types are available. We will focus on setting up an Aethernet IMAP
account for you. Choose Email account and click Next > Fill in your name in the box for Your Name – this is how your email recipients will see your name displayed in their inbox. In the Email Address box add your complete email address.
Click on Next > For the type of incoming server, choose IMAP. In the Incoming Server box type mail.aethernet.co.uk In the Outgoing Server box type smtp.aethernet.co.uk
Click on Next > In the Incoming User Name box type your complete email address. Do the same in the Outgoing User Name
Click on Next > In the Account Name box fill in the name you would like to give this account.
Click on Next > The setup wizard will now display all the configuration settings you have submitted.
Click on Finish if you are happy with them, or go Back if you want to change anything.
Thunderbird should prompt you for your password. Type it in. Click OK You should be able to see your new account and the accompanying folders.
18. A bit more configuration needs to be done. Go to the Tools menu and choose Account Settings ...
19.
The Account Settings window opens. Choose Server Settings in the left-hand pane.
Select SSL in the Security Settings section in the right-hand pane.
20.
Then choose Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the left-hand pane and click Edit in the right-hand pane.
In the SMTP Server window, in the Security Authentication section, select TLS
Click OK
When you want to send a message you will be asked for your password. You can tick Use Password Manager to remember this password if you do not want to type it in every time.
Click OK You will be given an Alert message about the pros and cons of giving Password Manager your password. Click OK
24. All done. Although Thunderbird allows you to filter emails you can do that more efficiently for all your
email clients on the server side, by logging into your webmail and configuring your filters there.
