How To - Install Kaspersky v6 on Windows Print E-mail

This tutorial will take you through the steps to install the Kaspersky Anti-Virus on

your Windows workstation. In most cases the defaults are selected, so if you feel

confident enough you should be able to install it by only glancing at the selections

set out here from time to time.

However if you would like to be sure, this is just the tutorial for you as we have

set out each step along the way.

1.

Download the Kaspersky trial version at

http://www.kaspersky.com/trials_business

2.

You will be given several options – go with Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations and click on the

Trial Download link.

3.

You will be asked to fill out a form with your details – make sure you fill in all those marked with an asterisk.

Be sure to specify an email address that is convenient for you to access, as you will be sent a link to this email

address later. You can simply add "No" in the box with the heading:

If you are already working with one of our authorized partners, please specify (Name, Country)*:

Once you've filled in all the mandatory boxes click OK

4.

You will be sent a link to the email address you filled in on the form in the previous step.

A new web-page should open in your browser when you click on the link. Select your download (Kaspersky version 6)

by clicking on the language link you feel comfortable with – probably English.

5.

The next page gives you an option of download sites for ftp or http – it doesn't really matter which one you choose,

but you may want to select the site closest to you in order to save bandwidth.

6.

You should get a pop-up window asking if you want to save the file. Click on Save File.

7.

Once the file has finished downloading open it from the location where you saved it (or you can do it via the download

manager in Firefox).

8.

If you get a warning about opening an executable file, ignore it and click OK.

9.

Next you will be prompted with the Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations – InstallShield Wizard.

Click Next >

10.

You will be prompted for a location to extract Kaspersky files. The default is fine.

Click Next >

11.

After completing this task (it may take a short while) the wizard will ask you to close other applications that are running.

Once you've done so, click on Next >

Image

12.

This brings up the End User License Agreement (EULA) – in order to proceed you are required to accept the licensing

agreement. Once you are satisfied with the agreement's stipulations, tick the radio button (we recommend that

you accept it).

Click Next >

13.

You will again be prompted for a folder, this time where the application will be installed. You recommend that you

go with the default.

14.

You will be asked which type of installation you want to do – click on Complete

15.

In order to avoid conflicts with Kaspersky Anti-Hacker, you are given the option to give priority either to

Windows Firewall or Kaspersky Anti-Hacker. We recommend that you choose to Disable Windows Firewall

Click on Next >

16.

The InstallShield wizard gives you a last chance to review your selections. If you are happy that all is ok,

click on Install

17.

Kaspersky installs – this shouldn't take too long ...

18.

Once done, click on Next >

Image

19.

This brings up the Setup Wizard – click on Next >

Image

20.

Next you are prompted for the type of protection required – select Basic protection and click Next >

Image

21.

For the Update Mode, go with the selected default (every 2 hours) if you are not sure, or choose whatever seems

more practical for your purposes. You can reconfigure this later if necessary. Click Next >

Image

22.

Next you are asked to specify when the anti-virus scans should take place. At start-up is a reasonable suggestion,

but choose the option that best suits your way of working.

Click Next >

Image

23.

You will then be asked about password protection. If you are concerned about other people working on your

workstation and changing Kaspersky's settings, then you may want to Enable password protection.

If not, simply click on Next >

Image

24.

The Anti-Hacker page gives you a summary of your protection. It shouldn't be necessary to change anything

at this stage.

Click on Next >

Image

25.

In the next screen the Setup Wizard informs you that it has created rules about all the applications it detected

on your workstation. If any of your applications have special needs you might want to have a peek, but if not

click Next >

26.

Installation is now complete. You have a last opportunity to go back and modify or review some of your choices.

The last step is to restart your computer and the wizard will do this for you if you click on Finish

Image

27.

If all went well, after Windows restarted you should see the Kaspersky icon in the status bar - that means it's up and running.

Kaspersky usually prompts you via pop-ups around the status bar to alert you of outstanding actions. After the installation you may be alerted of necessary updates and to perform your first scan. First do the update and then restart your computer.
